Licensing

Rime offers four licensing tiers designed to scale with your organization. Each tier sets limits on the number of projects, connectors, and users you can create, and determines which features are available. All tiers include the core platform — extraction, transformation, infrastructure management, and monitoring — with governance, SSO, and advanced features unlocked at higher tiers.

What each governance level includes

  • Basic — role-based access control within the project. Users have Viewer, Editor, or Admin roles. No data classification or masking.
  • Standard — everything in Basic, plus data classification labels. You can tag columns with classifications (e.g., “Internal”, “Confidential”) but masking policies are not available.
  • Full — everything in Standard, plus PII detection, column-level masking policies (masked by default), and compliance reporting.
  • Full + audit export — everything in Full, plus the ability to export audit logs to external systems (S3, SIEM tools) for long-term retention and compliance.

Free / Trial tier

The Free tier is designed for evaluation. It gives you access to the core platform with limited capacity:

  • 1 project, 2 connectors, 2 users
  • Email-only alert notifications
  • 7-day audit log retention
  • Community support (no SLA)

The Free tier does not expire. You can use it indefinitely for small workloads or continued evaluation. When you are ready to scale, upgrade to a paid tier.

Small Business tier

For small teams that need more capacity than the Free tier but do not require enterprise features:

  • Up to 3 projects, 10 connectors per project, 10 users
  • Email and Slack alert channels
  • Standard governance (classification labels, no masking)
  • 30-day audit retention
  • 48-hour support response time (business hours)

Business tier

Rime’s full-featured tier. Unlocks everything the platform offers:

  • Unlimited projects, connectors, and users
  • SSO support (SAML 2.0 and OIDC)
  • Data Vault transformation methodology
  • PII detection and column-level masking
  • All alert channels (email, Slack, PagerDuty, webhooks)
  • Full governance with compliance reporting
  • 90-day audit retention
  • 24-hour support response time (business hours)
  • Cortex AI integration

SSO requires configuration with your identity provider (Azure AD, Okta, or any SAML 2.0 / OIDC-compliant provider). See the SSO configuration guide for setup instructions.

PII detection and masking require Snowflake Enterprise Edition, since they use Snowflake’s tag-based masking policies. If your Snowflake account is Standard Edition, these features are available in Rime but cannot be applied until you upgrade Snowflake.

Business Critical tier

Everything in Business tier, with enhanced support and compliance guarantees for organisations where data platform availability is mission-critical. Business Critical does not add new features — it adds priority treatment and extended retention:

  • Everything in Business tier (unlimited projects, connectors, users, all features)
  • Priority incident response — 4-hour support response time (business hours), dedicated support contact, priority during outages and incidents. If standard business hours don’t fit your needs, contact us to discuss options
  • Extended audit retention — 1 year (vs 90 days on Business)
  • Audit log export to external systems (S3, SIEM tools) for long-term compliance
  • Invoice-based billing (in addition to credit card) with net-30 payment terms

This tier is designed for organisations with strict compliance requirements, procurement processes that mandate enhanced SLAs, or workloads where downtime has a direct business impact. If the Business tier meets your feature needs, it is the right choice for most teams.

Upgrading

You can upgrade your tier at any time from Settings > Licensing > Change Tier. Upgrades take effect immediately:

  • New resource limits apply instantly. You can create additional projects, connectors, and users up to the new tier’s limits.
  • Newly unlocked features (SSO, Data Vault, PII detection, additional alert channels) are available immediately.
  • Billing is prorated. You are charged the difference between your current tier and the new tier for the remainder of the billing period.

No data migration is required when upgrading. Your existing projects, connectors, pipelines, and configurations remain unchanged.

Downgrading

You can downgrade your tier from Settings > Licensing > Change Tier. Downgrading takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Until then, you retain access to your current tier’s features.

When the downgrade takes effect:

  • Resources over the new limit become read-only. If you have 5 projects and downgrade to Small Business (3-project limit), the two most recently created projects become read-only. You can view their data and configurations but cannot modify them or run pipelines. To restore full access, either delete projects to get under the limit or upgrade again.
  • Features not available on the new tier are disabled. SSO sessions remain active until they expire but new SSO logins are not allowed. PII detection and masking policies remain in Snowflake (they are not removed) but you cannot create or modify them through Rime. Alert channels not available on the new tier stop delivering notifications.
  • Audit logs are retained for the period specified by the new tier. Logs older than the new retention period are deleted after a 30-day grace period.

We recommend reviewing your resource counts before downgrading to ensure you are within the new tier’s limits. The downgrade confirmation screen shows which resources will be affected.

Viewing your current tier

Your current tier and resource usage are visible at Settings > Licensing. This page shows:

  • Current tier name and billing period
  • Resource usage vs. limits (projects, connectors, users)
  • Feature availability
  • Next billing date and amount
